The comparison report reviews the current legal and taxation frameworks for Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) across the leading jurisdictions of Belgium, Finland, Germany, Ireland, the UK, and the USA. The report considers the legal and capital requirements, any restrictions, permitted assets and tax frameworks in each jurisdiction.
The Maltese Government has announced plans to create a regulatory and fiscal framework to permit REITs to be established in Malta. As a result, the island will join these jurisdictions and over 25 others that currently have REITs regimes in place. Chetcuti Cauchi has been engaged by the Malta Stock Exchange to propose the necessary legal amendments for the REITs framework. In preparation for the introduction of this new investment vehicle in Malta, we have compiled our research on different REITs frameworks around the world into an informative report that compares the principle features of each regime.
